SUPPORT to keep St Andrew's Primary School open will not fade away, according to the PTA chairman.

Alasdair McLaren's words came as the Save St Andrew's campaign launched a website including an online petition. 'The site has been designed to make simple statements that demonstrate the strength of feeling from pupils, teachers, parents and parishioners,' said Mr McLaren.

'It has a dual purpose - both to inform people about the campaign and elicit a response from those who wish to declare themselves in support of retaining the school.

'We have been heartened by the level of support to date from all over the island and we decided to include the petition so that people could make their feelings known.

'This support will not diminish while Education leaves this cloud of uncertainty hanging over the school.

'We want them to review the position immediately and declare publicly that there is no merit in closing St Andrew's.'

In addition to a 'why we love our school' section, the site includes a letter from Mr McLaren setting out the argument against the Education board's statement that the school could be closed and an explanation as to how the closure would affect not only St Andrew's pupils and parents, but those attending other primary schools.

A gallery page depicts some of the school's activities and the site gives visitors contact details for the PTA and an opportunity to download the campaign poster.
