AN OPTION to use Les Osmonds Lane as pedestrian access to the new St Sampson's High School could be blocked by landowners.

The lane has been suggested as one of five possible routes for children from St Peter Port to walk to the school safely. But Rex Trott, who owns some of the area on one of the proposed routes, said he would never allow it and others support his stance.

'I bought the land years ago because I wanted a buffer in case they ever built a housing estate nearby. It's nice and quiet around here and as long as I'm around, it's going to stay that way. Besides, the States doesn't have the money to build a road anyway. It would cost something like £9m.'
