KATE STUBBINGTON (pictured) produced some superb play to win a bronze medal at the British Primary Schools' Championships in Douglas, Isle of Man.

But it could so easily have been a silver as the fast-improving youngster lost only two singles matches all weekend and, in the team competition, actually beat the English girl who ended her run in the singles, Emma Torkington.

There was further celebration for the Sarnian squad with a maiden team win for the girls over one of the four main home nations. Inspired by Stubbington, they beat Ireland to finish fifth of the six teams. The Guernsey boys fared even better, finishing fourth after wins over Ireland and the hosts.
