GH SMIT'S aggressive, all-or-bust attitude to his innings last night reaped a handsome reward. His unbeaten 124 is thought to be a record for a 16-over top flight Evening League match as he set up Rovers for a comprehensive 77-run win over Grant Thornton at the KGV.

The island star's first three balls went for four-six-four before he gave a chance to bowler Gary De Carteret on the next. It was not taken and the blistering onslaught continued. Together with Tim Duke, who made 33 at quicker than a run a ball on his favourite track, Smit, right, was part of an opening partnership worth 136 made in less than 11 overs.

In total he faced just 60 balls, having reached 50 in 20 and his century in a further 24, striking 13 fours and six maximums as no bowler was spared from the punishment. Grant Thornton were never going to get close to a victory target of 182.
