THE first night of the Ernst & Young Touch Summer League saw 117 tries being scored by the 36 teams taking part.

The start of the 12-week league also saw the biggest ever win recorded since the start of Touch in Guernsey in 2004 with Source Sorcerers winning their game 14-0.

A 12-0 win for Mercator and a 9-0 win for Touchy Feely contributed towards the first night's three-figure try total.

'It was a fantastic night and there were players of every level, which was extremely encouraging. It was also amazing to see some of the more experienced teams, who were playing new teams, displaying some great sportsmanship to ensure that everyone enjoyed their time on the field,' said Guernsey Touch chairman Andrew Hutton.

'If the first night was an indication of the how the rest of the season is going to progress, then there is no doubt that it will be Guernsey Touch's best one yet.'

The 18 mixed teams have been randomly drawn into three pools of six with each team playing a round robin for the first five weeks.

Depending on their pool position, the teams will then be divided into leagues for the second half of the season culminating in a finals night on 6 August.
