Online gaming 'damages' reputation
VIRGIN GAMES' plan to move its head office from London to Guernsey has come under fire from a St Peter Port politician.
VIRGIN GAMES' plan to move its head office from London to Guernsey has come under fire from a St Peter Port politician. Deputy Barry Brehaut (pictured) is worried that online gaming will damage the island's reputation.
'I think it goes so far as being detrimental to our relationship with the UK, which is already delicate,' he said. 'Guernsey is well known for its very high reputation in financial services and I'm not convinced that sits well with e-gambling. Does Guernsey really want to be at its epicentre?'
He does not believe the States has decided whether or not it wants to embrace online gaming. 'There are huge issues, reputation issues, with e-gambling and I think we lose the moral authority by accepting online gaming in the island without a proper debate.'
