HD FERRIES has scrapped its Tuesday and Thursday sailings for the rest of the summer. It said lack of demand and rising fuel prices were to blame.

But the decision has caused inconvenience for those people who had booked, including La Mare de Carteret Primary School, which had planned to take 25 children to France in a couple of weeks' time.

The group was booked to travel on a Tuesday sailing, returning on the Friday. Head teacher Kevin Hinshaw said the school had rebooked with Condor and will now travel on the Monday, coming back on the Thursday.

He said the cancellation had caused a lot of extra work for the teacher organising the trip. 'We had to alter our plans at the last minute,' he said.
