THE sun may have been shining and there was only a little breeze in their faces, but with the inter-insular road race less than 72 hours away many top riders took their foot off the pedal for the latest 10-mile time trial.

THE sun may have been shining and there was only a little breeze in their faces, but with the inter-insular road race less than 72 hours away many top riders took their foot off the pedal for the latest 10-mile time trial.

Nevertheless, the good conditions enabled some good times to be set among the 34 competitors. Winner James McLaughlin could not be accused of holding back and he recorded the fastest time of the evening with a slick 21min. 41sec. before crossing the finishing line and being sick.

Aaron Bailey took second place in 22-14 with Mike Dean third. Veteran Graham Le Maitre followed in fourth with Grant Chalmers an impressive fifth.
