JASON SAVIDENT sank a 25ft birdie putt on the last green to clinch the handicap section of the 72-hole tournament which seemingly had been destined for Brian Lucas to win until the last moment.

Ultimately it was countback which settled matters in favour of the five-handicap L'Ancresse member, who had shot a final day net 70 to make up the necessary three shots on Lucas who had led for two days.

'I hadn't sunk a thing all week until that 25 footer on the last hole. My game plan was to just keep the ball in play and I stuck to the game plan. Over the four days I lost just two balls.'
