KAY MAPLEY took the scratch honours, but it was a visiting La Moye player who took the main trophy at this year's open event at L'Ancresse.

Chrstine Whitfield scored a magnificent 451 points off her 23 handicap to win by a solitary point from Carol Wood and Colette Le Lievre. Following her recent cut to 13, Royal Guernsey player Wood produced the round of her life to score 40 and in so doing further reduce her handicap to a career-best 12.

The wife of former Ryder Cup player Norman Wood closed out her round in fine style with a birdie at 16, a long par-saving putt at 17 and a solid par at 18. Continuing from her fine performance in the President's prize last week, Mapley shot an excellent 78 gross and reduced her handicap to a very creditable six.
