ROVERS very nearly threw away their 100% record in the pool group stages of the GCA Cup against Salemites at the KGV last night.
Up against Division One's basement boys, Rovers captain and island seamer Stuart Bisson decided not to bowl himself nor Tim Duke and Salemites went on to post 103 from their 16 overs.
In reply, and with their best batsman, GH Smit, dropped down the order, the Port Soif outfit eventually crawled over the finishing line seven wickets down and with eight balls left. Young quickie Olly Lepp looked impressive as he took two for 26 including one wicket maiden. He also clean bowled former Evening League cricketer of the year Duke.
There were some worried looks on the faces of the Rovers team sitting on the boundary edge before Bisson saw them home with two fours off Stef Hothi.
'We rested our supposed big guns tonight and we almost had our bottom bitten,' said Bisson.
