BRIAN QUERU will tee up as defending champion in Saturday's Investec L'Ancresse Open.

The most prestigious event in the LGC calendar is once again full to its capacity of 170, with many low-handicappers from around the Channel Islands and the UK among the field.

Queru (pictured) endured a nervous wait last year as long-time leader in the clubhouse with a net 65, but his fine round was not to be beaten.

In the scratch trophy, holder Bobby Eggo is once again the man to beat. He has claimed the trophy no fewer than 12 times, five of those occasions coming in the last six years. In 2007 he carded a two-under-par 68.

The weekend starts tomorrow with the Investec Team Golf competition, which will see 200 golfers playing in four-balls.
