IT IS decades since the island produced any notable young girl golfers, but this year's lady captain at the Royal Guernsey is confident that the drought is about to end.
IT IS decades since the island produced any notable young girl golfers, but this year's lady captain at the Royal Guernsey is confident that the drought is about to end.
Jean Whalley has expressed her delight at the young talent coming through in golf and says the future is now very bright for the sport in the island.
'It is looking very promising indeed. I am absolutely delighted that it shows the strength of Guernsey golf,' she said.
Three of the island's top prospects are Abigail Howard, 12, Aimee Ponte, 13, and Beki Le Cheminant, 15. All of them competed in the recent Lady Captain's Day, Whalley's big moment of her captaincy period.
The Lady Captain believes that the trio are simply a snapshot of the overall game.
'They are three of a few youngsters who are performing well at the moment.'
