NICO ROBINSON and Megan Hearse won the singles at the Ipes Guernsey Junior Open at the Guernsey Tennis Club.

The event, played in glorious sunshine, included nearly 50 individuals, who were fighting for the title in a range of singles, doubles and mixed doubles events.

Robinson had to fight his way through a round robin group stage to determine his seeding, before knockout matches from the quarter-finals onwards.

The final ultimately saw him take on the defending champion, Jonny Taylor, for the title. A close match had been anticipated after their round-robin encounter had taken 90 minutes to complete.

In the end, though, Robinson found his rhythm better and won fairly comfortably 6-1, 6-3.

The girls' event took a different format and was played in a straight round-robin basis.

The final turned into a thriller, with Hearse and Georgina Denton battling for supremacy.

After sharing the first two sets, it went to a championship tiebreak to settle it, which itself was nip and tuck the whole way.

Hearse eventually won it 10-8. Both girls' passage to the final had been made slightly easier by the absence of Jo Dyer, the champion for the past couple of years, who was away playing in the Senior County.
