IT WAS vintage Heather Watson as she eased through to the semi-finals of the British Junior National Championships under-18 singles.

The 16-year-old islander had no problems in dispensing with Stephanie Cornish in straight sets at the LTA headquarters in Roehampton yesterday.

She dropped only one game in the process.

'She played very well and it was probably the best match I've seen her play in a long time,' said Watson's mother, Michelle.

'She was playing thinking tennis. She made her plan and she stuck to it.'

Watson, who went into the tournament seeded fifth, looked to have a challenge on her hands when she faced 16-year-old Cornish, the number three seed.

However, Watson took the first set 6-0 before taking the second 6-1.

Watson now plays the top seed, Tara Moore, today in the semi-finals.
