PAT OGIER was the first Guernsey player to be crowned the Jersey Open men's singles champion as he completed a clean sweep of all the titles.

The Sarnian, who celebrated his 21st birthday last week, was in imperious form at the weekend as he won the singles, doubles and mixed doubles at the prestigious annual event at the Caesarean Tennis Club.

He also took home a total of £425 in prize money for his efforts.

According to Ogier, since the singles cup was first awarded in 1950, there are no Guernsey names engraved on the silverware.

'It was great and I was really pleased to get that,' said Ogier.

'Hopefully, I'll keep it for a few years. I'm thinking of putting Guernsey in brackets after my name on the cup.'

The powerful right-hander got his hands on the cup after he took care of Jeremy Cross 6-2, 6-1 in the final.

The Jersey number one had defeated Ogier in last year's final.

'It was good to get a bit of revenge,' said Ogier.

'He's a good player and I was happy that I played a lot better this year. I was a lot more confident and I was attacking a lot.'
