HUSBAND and wife Don and Doreen Batiste pulled off the double as both won their respective Bowls Guernsey over-60 singles competitions at the weekend.

Playing at the Guernsey Bowling Club's Beau Sejour green, Northerner Don beat the home player, Phil Schofield, in a very close Smithard Singles final.

It was 9-9 after nine ends and still deadlocked at 12-12 after 15, but the former picked up three counts of two shots whereas his opponent could manage only singles over the following 10 ends leaving Batiste the winner at 21-16.

Doreen beat Pauline Leadbeater in a similarly close contest in the Carre Singles.

The former enjoyed a better start, leading 11-6 at 11 ends, but Leadbeater levelled the game at 11-11 at 15 and two counts of three on the 17th and 18th put her in the driving seat.

However, back came her opponent to score on the last five ends to record a 21-17 win.
