ONCE proud First Tower, champions of the Channel Islands on 12 occasions, left the Corbet Field beaten and disgraced on Saturday.

They had nothing to be ashamed about in the performance, edged out 2-1 in the Collins Cup by a far more deserving Vale Rec side, but having seen Aaron Gouveia receive a straight red from referee Geoff Greening very late on, their bench and some players lost the plot at the final whistle.

The hard-core language from at least one of their coaching contingent was appalling and as the players headed for the changing rooms, such was the hostility towards the official in charge, that Greening issued a second red to a Tower player for an alleged offensive gesture and referees officer Graham Skuse (pictured) had to step in to prevent Tower players following the match officials to their room.

It was a sad end to an entertaining enough game, one which Vale should have wrapped up long before the end.
