DAVE LOWE is set to finish third in the 2008 Classic Formula Ford 1600 Championship.
The 69-year-old Guernsey racing driver has won the championship, which is held in association with Bernard Baxter Engineering, a staggering 12 times since his first win in 1993.
However, he most recently claimed the honours in 2006. With two rounds left in this year's Class B series, Lowe finds himself in third place in his Lotus 69, behind last year's champion Andrew Smith in second and 25-year-old Jon Davies with an unassailable lead out in front.
'I'm getting older and they are getting younger,' said Lowe. 'I just about keep up with these nippers. When you're young, you're supposed to be mad and when you're old, you're supposed to be experienced, but I'm past both of these.'
Lowe's bid for the title was hampered by the fact that he did not race in four rounds.
