THE Greens are probably black-and-blue as Guernsey go into their first home match of the season tomorrow.

First team captain Simon Sharrott reported yesterday that in an attempt to address the main factor that led to defeat against Effingham & Leatherhead a week ago, the players have been going head-to-head in practice.

'Training this week has been concentrating on the tackle area and Tuesday was a very tough session, which basically saw the squad smashing each other up for an hour and a half,' said Sharrott. This is due to the missed tackles last week against Effingham & Leatherhead, which basically cost us the game.'

For someone who has experience of Premiership rugby in England, Sharrott was understandably disappointed that his high standards were not met seven days ago.

'Unfortunately, last weekend we only really played rugby for about 25 minutes and to win games in this competition the team needs to play for a full 80 minutes. I think the most disappointing aspect of the game was that they were not better than us and it was the same old story of not having the correct attitude to finish the job off.'

  • Guernsey v. Winchester kicks off at 2pm.
