THE young Guernsey team may not have had the best of times at the weekend's Senior Six Nations Table Tennis Championships in Largs, Scotland, but they learnt some invaluable lessons.
With a British League match clashing with the tournament, which rued out four of the island's top players in Garry Dodd, Scott Romeril, Phil Ogier and Ollie Langlois, Guernsey decided to send a young men's team of Adam Langlois and Matthew Stubbington, along with a women's side of Alice Loveridge and Paula Le Ber, who are also both juniors.
Both teams only picked up one win each but Guernsey coach Phil Hunkin was a proud man.
'Their attitude was spot on. They tried 100% and they didn't look out of place,' he said. 'They just need a bit more to be able to compete at this level but they now know what they need to do. The experience they get from going to events like this is invaluable.'
The Sarnians played against all the Home Nations in a round-robin team event and also competed in the individual championships over three days of competition.
