JUANDE RAMOS'S Spurs side always seem ripe for the taking these days, just as the Tottenham vintage of 1932 seemingly were.

That was the year the 'Lilywhites' came to Guernsey and scraped a 2-1 win over the island side at the Track.

Even Ramos's 2008 collection of misfits would fancy putting two past our own modern-day lot and the result of 76 years ago caused something of a stir locally – even though the Londoners weren't exactly on top form after having just finished eighth in the former Second Division.

After all, Reading had only recently played the island side and put seven past them. Guernsey even took the lead against Percy Smith's side when, after 14 minutes, centre forward Harold Dorey converted a cross by right-winger Micky Brassel, father of the 1954 four-goal Muratti hero of the same name.

It wasn't until the 30th minute that Spurs levelled through inside left (for younger readers that's a sort of Frank Lampard position) after a clever run by Willie Evans.
