JERSEY'S cricket clubs have given a fully-blown Channel Islands league the go-ahead to start next season.

And with Guernsey having already given the 11-team league the thumbs up, organisers in the islands will now look into the logistics of playing the championship.

Ron Halliwell, the Caesareans' leagues management committee secretary, said that the Jersey clubs were unanimous in their decision.

'We agree with Guernsey's suggestion that it should be a complete league for two years unless there is a large dividing line after the first season and then we may split the league into two divisions.

'We have to give it a chance to work and see what happens and preferably we will look at it again after two, full seasons rather than just one.

There were no dissenters at the Jersey meeting and the news has been welcomed by Piesing, the Guernsey Cricket Board chairman.
