THERE is a snag to junior taking up golf in Guernsey, but a positive one.

Snag stands for Starting New At Golf and is a unique game developed by professionals to teach golf to youngsters and people who do not have access to a course.

It is a great learning and development tool for entry-level golfers and both Phil Sykes' Golf Academy at St Pierre Park and, now, Beau Sejour Centre are using this fun approach to teaching.

The academy attracted a full house of participants in the recent 'Snag Golf Camp' held over the half-term holiday. The three-day camp involved two days of shot learning and basic general knowledge of the sport followed by a six-hole tournament on the third day.

Many of the youngsters who have attended one or more of the eight camps over the past year have now moved up to the next level of their learning and are developing their skills to take them out onto real golf courses.
