DESPITE Brewin Dolphin Amazons not being able to field a side against Ship & Crown Puffins at the weekend, they are still top of the Investec Women's Division One.

Amazons' match with the reigning champions will be played at a later date. It could prove to be crucial as the pair, having played three matches each, are both on six points.

But Amazons are ahead thanks to a greater goal difference. However, Approved Personnel Panthers are certain to have a say in who will claim the title, as they are also on six points but have a game in hand.

They claimed their second straight victory when they took care of Clubhouse Cubs in a high-scoring game on Saturday.

'I was really pleased with our second-half performance,' said Panthers captain Sarah McInnes, 'especially the new players - Sian Ellis, Dominique Hunter and Krista de la Mare - who looked particularly promising.'
