'Mr Cricket' Frith scoops top award

GUERNSEY'S own 'Mr Cricket' Jeremy Frith was last night named as GCA player of the year.

It was, perhaps somewhat surprisingly, only the second time the island all-rounder has picked up the award, the first being in 2002. If it were presented to the person most dedicated to the sport on the island, he would win it every year.

'To say Frithy lives and breathes cricket is putting it mildly, as everyone he collars for a chat knows only too well,' said GCA president Mark Latter.

'For several years now he has been a pivotal figure in every team in which he has played, both with his batting and bowling.

'His value to both his club and Guernsey cannot be overstated and he is a worthy winner of the award.'

For Cobo, Frith (pictured) averaged more than 68 with the bat and hit four hundreds while he picked up 36 wickets with his left-arm spin at a cost of just 10 runs apiece.
