GUERNSEY'S swimmers were in seventh heaven on Saturday.

For the seventh year running, the island team got the better of their Jersey counterparts in the annual inter-insular for the Governors' Cup.

The Sarnians picked up 245 points in the Beau Sejour pool, while Jersey managed 173.

'It was a good competition and I thought it was going to be closer,' said the president of the Guernsey Amateur Swimming Association, Chris Butt.

'There were a lot of records broken as well which is pleasing to see so early on in the season. It's looking good for the Island Championships in a couple of weeks' time.'

The star for the home team was Joshua Lewis. The 15-year-old Elizabeth College student won four races in the boys 14/15 section - the 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly and the 100m breaststroke in which he set a new gala record.
