AN INDIE group with Guernsey roots is out to top the UK charts – and make waves in the art world.

Subliminal Girls release their single on Monday and have joined forces with young contemporary British artist Stuart Semple to put their new track under the spotlight. Three of the five members – Jim Rhesus, Jimmy Morris and Danny Le Pelley – met at Elizabeth College.

'We all used to be in bands in Guernsey. We started up in London three years ago and decided to record a couple of songs,' said Mr Morris.

Signed to a record label, they released a single which was a top 20 Indie hit and was played on Radio 1, 6Music, Kerrang and Xfm. 'It didn't do anything massive, but it was good enough,' he said.

Since then they have supported The Klaxons and Babyshambles and count Steve Lamacq and Chris Moyles among fans.

Their new single, Self Obsession is an Art Form, was recorded in July and Radio 2, 6Music and NME have all mentioned or featured the new collaborative project, which is lined up to appear in music magazine Mojo this month.

  • The single is also available to download online for 50p.
