ST JACQUES overcame an edgy start on Sunday to register victory over Les Quennevais.

The visitors used their big pack to power over from close range to open the scoring after 10 minutes, with Saints having knocked on from the kick-off, but Les Q would not add to that five-pointer.

Tom Chamberlain (pictured) settled the home side's nerves with a 25-yard penalty and they took the lead when the ball found its way out to Ed Blewett, who used his pace to outstrip three defenders down the left touchline for a superb solo try, which began inside his own 22.

Chamberlain converted the try from the touchline to make it 10-5. Both sides were putting in some big tackles before, moments from half-time, Chamberlain broke the line near the opposition's 22 and offloaded to scrum-half Andy Will.

He beat a couple of men before passing to his captain, No. 8 Tim Pond, who cut back inside to score under the posts. That try was also converted to establish a 17-5 half-time lead.

A scrappy second half with no clean phases of play meant that the scoreline did not change further.
