A TERRIBLE first half cost Coreix Unwantables dearly in Saturday's men's hockey 'Upton'.

In fact, it was the Jersey champions, Rathbones OVs Convicts, who looked like the home side for the first 35 minutes at Foote's Lane as they rattled in three goals which Unwantables never looked like matching.

'We didn't show up for the first half,' admitted Unwantables captain Adie Peacegood. 'You'd think we were the away team. First half they bossed the game.

'We had a couple of very good chances and if they had gone in, we'd have gone 2-0 up and it would have been a different game. I don't know if it was nerves and the occasion got to them, but you'd think they were old and wise enough to get over the nerves.

'Maybe getting the boys to turn up half-an-hour before the match was the wrong idea.'
