ADAM CLARK has been picked for the under-16 England hockey training squad to go to Gibraltar.

'I'm very pleased,' said the 15-year-old Elizabeth College star. Clark was originally selected for the 34-man training squad last month after shining for the west regional side, the Wessex Leopards, in the Futures Cup against other regional U-16 outfits.

Then following a recent assessment weekend, Clark, who likes to play inside right, was chosen for the 26-man England squad.

Called the National Age Group U-16 Programme, it involves training sessions in the UK, which will see Clark travel there once a month.

He was then named in a 20-man squad who will be put through their paces in a warm weather training camp in Gibraltar from Friday 2 to Monday 5 January.

The squad will be further reduced later in the season for some competitive matches, which come in the form of the Easter Four Nations tournament, involving Germany, Spain and The Netherlands.
