Opener Wells puts Guernsey to the sword

THE Guernsey development side were given a batting masterclass by the son of former Sussex and England batsman, Alan Wells.

Playing against Sussex in the Academy Arch Tournament in Sharjah on Wednesday, Luke Wells smashed a simply breathtaking 180 in his side's massive total of 356 for six off their 50 overs.

The shellshocked Sarnians could manage only 92 in reply. Guernsey coach Jeremy Frith was full of praise for the England under-19 star.

'We played Middlesex in a two-day match at U-19s and Owais Shah scored 170-odd, but I have not seen an innings like that in a while,' he said.

After Guernsey had made early inroads with Will Peatfield and Matt Renouf posing a threat, the island bowlers failed to control the new white ball and conceded 60 extras.
