ALDERNEY'S junior players gave a good account of themselves recently against their Guernsey counterparts.

In a four-hour marathon with 24 players on either side at the Guernsey Table Tennis centre, the home side come away winners 128-16.

A number of the Sarnians have played abroad at national level in the British Primary School Championships.

'Although this was quite a convincing win, the fact that Alderney players were picking up wins against Guernsey players who have already played at such a high level proves beyond any doubt that the Alderney team have great potential and will only get better in the future,' said Guernsey Table Tennis Association's Tony Brassell.

The match of the day took place between Guernsey's Alex Robinson and Alderney's Tom Oakman.

In a cracking encounter that drew a crowd of supporters to the top table, Robinson raced into an early lead, winning the first game 11-9.
