HEATHER WATSON could be the highest ranked British player at the junior Australian Open next month.

The Guernsey star (pictured) is set to be seeded at least 12th for the grand slam event - the place she is on the acceptance list - but junior Wimbledon champion Laura Robson, who is likely to be the fourth seed, is a doubt because of injury.

Robson's management team will take an 'overly cautious' approach after she tore a stomach muscle to put her place at Melbourne Park in jeopardy.

The 14-year-old Londoner missed the girls' tournament at the US Open, so the Australian Open would be her first junior grand slam since her success on the All England Club grass.

As things stand, Robson is the only Briton above Watson in the Australian Open entry.

The 16-year-old Sarnian is currently 23rd in the world junior ranking, enough to guarantee her entry into the grand slam events.
