An unlikely venue but the tone is set for a perfect day

HOW times change.

Two years ago my highlight was attending the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

Fast forward to 2008 and for the MCG read the Rocquettes Hotel.

OK, it might not have the same ring to it when it comes to sporting venues, but the local establishment on Les Gravees holds some fond memories for me as it was there that the Guernsey Rugby Club first team squad congregated for their pre-Siam Cup brunch and team meeting.

In this job, when you get something wrong or somebody does not agree with your opinion, boy do you hear about it.

Occasionally, though, you are complimented for your work and seldom have I received a better compliment than when Andy Bailey issued an invitation to the pre-match meeting that Saturday morning.

It came right out of the blue and, inadvertently, I have colleagues in the television media to thank.
