Emergency ops only as PEH is struck by flu

FLU has led to the postponement of non-emergency surgery at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.

The decision will affect people who were due to be operated on between today and Saturday.

Day patients will be admitted as normal and it is hoped that planned admissions will start being taken again on Sunday.

Patients who have been affected will be contacted so that a new admission date can be arranged.

Not only has the hospital seen an influx of patients with flu-like illness and diarrhoea, but staff have been affected.

Health and Social Services said on Monday that no one had been admitted over the weekend with flu-like illness.

But from last night, Arnold and de Sausmarez wards will be accepting emergency admissions only. Designated staff have been allocated to care for potentially infectious patients.
