GUERNSEY'S boxers have a real test on their hands tomorrow ahead of next month's Open Show.

On Saturday 21 February, one of the biggest events in the local sporting calendar will take place as more than 800 people cram into the David Ferguson Hall for the show.

And this year's event promises to be doubly explosive, as Jersey will send over, for the first time in many a year, its finest to slog it out with the island's top pugilists for Channel Islands Championship titles.

But before then, the Amalgamated Boys Club are taking on a North-East London select team at tomorrow night's dinner boxing show at St Pierre Park Hotel.

The visitors will be no slouches, with a number of Repton Boxing Club fighters in their ranks.

Repton calls itself the finest boxing club in England.

'There are a lot of Repton boys in their team and they are one of top clubs around,' said Guernsey coach Graham Guilbert.
