THE Association of Guernsey Travel Agents has recommended that islanders check that their travel insurance covers trips to the UK because the reciprocal health agreement will no longer protect them.

Chairman Fred Eulenkamp (pictured), managing director of Uniglobe Island Travel, said he had been trying to set up a special package with his insurance broker to solve the problem.

'It is early days, but this is important because I don't think many people know that their travel insurance excludes the UK,' he said. 'Everyone needs to look very carefully now at whether they will be fully insured.'

Often the section about the exclusion of cover in the UK is presented only as a detail, he said, because most travel insurance packages cater for people going further afield.

Businesses should follow suit, he said. 'The same goes for companies who send people to the UK on business. They need to check their set-up has it in place too - I would hate for anybody to get caught out.'
