DEVELOPMENT officer Geraint Cooper was in the crowd to watch the Grammar School take on and convincingly beat Elizabeth College 13-0 in the curtain raiser for the schools' representative sides.

The soggy conditions meant that the match was mainly played in the forwards and at times it was a scrappy encounter.

The game was won by the safe kicking of Grammar School fly half John Byrne, who converted two penalties.

He also controlled his backs well and showed good positional sense throughout the game.

The highlight for the College side was the tough tackling of their centres, Alex Rowe and Fabien Gonzales, and fullback James Watson, whose natural attacking flair was accompanied by a strong defensive performance.

The game was won by an excellent solo effort by Grammar's coach, sixth former Seoirse Lee, who took the ball on the halfway line and charged to the try line.

'It was an entertaining game with lots of energy and effort,' said new RDO Cooper.
