WORLD CUP winner Alison Merrien is out to conquer a smaller territory next week.

She flew out of the island yesterday as part of Guernsey's four-strong team heading for Cyprus and the European Championships.

The event is a round-robin of singles and mixed pairs, with all results contributing to a team score.

Merrien teams up with Garry Collins, while Matt Le Ber, the island's top men's singles player, partners Lucy Beere in another strong combination.

The championships feature 15 countries and an EBU President's Select team and runs from tomorrow through to next Friday.

Jersey also travel and will be represented by Gaynor Thomas and Alan Quemard, Eileen Vowden and Malcolm de Sousa.
