A BURNT-OUT stolen car had to be pulled up a cliff yesterday after it had been rolled over the edge at Pleinmont.

The white Nissan Micra was first noticed early yesterday by a local fisherman, who contacted the police.

Police and the Ambulance and Rescue Service started searching the area around Mont Herault and La Congrelle at 8am.

'We found parts of the car up by the scrambles track and scattered along the coast,' said Ambulance and Rescue station officer Andy Walford.

The car was smouldering in the gorse.

The Fire and Rescue Service was called to damp down the area before the car could be retrieved.

According to the recovery team, the fire had been hot enough to melt the vehicle's headlamp bulbs.
