JOHNNY REID has stepped down as Vale Rec boss in protest at the changes brought in by the Guernsey Football Association.

A well-publicised and, some would say, controversial, four-year plan implemented by the GFA before the start of this season, has shaken up the local game.

Among the new initiatives, the ruling body replaced the Priaulx League with the Senior County League Division One, brought in rolling substitutes for the lower leagues, got rid of the Jackson League and under-18 Youth One league and put in an under-21s' competition in their place.

It was all too much for Reid (pictured), who has announced he has resigned as Vale Rec coach.

'The changes that the GFA have done, I don't think they are right,' said the former Muratti star.

'I've grown disillusioned with the game. The spark has gone out of it for me. Football for me isn't right. There have been too many changes, too quickly.'

The change that Reid has the biggest gripe with is the new under-21 development league.

'It's too much for players to go from under-16s straight to under-21s,' he said.

'You've got to have something in the middle.'
