DANNY BLONDEL shot a superb 65 to claim the honours in the L'Ancresse Golf Club's Polygon Trophy.

The long-hitting island star (pictured) carded his five-under-par gross round - a net 63 - on Saturday and has since seen his handicap reduced to 1.1.

The next best gross score was a level-par 70 from Andy Eggo, who has only recently returned to playing.

Meanwhile, Mike McCarthy was the winner of the Royal Guernsey Golf Club's Bucktrout Cup.

The competition was played in breezy but dry conditions at L'Ancresse.

Nineteen-handicapper McCarthy shot an incredible net 61, nine under par, to claim victory in the Royal's first medal competition of the year.

McCarthy went out in 39 and came back in 41. His round included two gross birdies and seven net birdies.

Fourteen-handicapper Scott Ingrouille was second with a net 66. He just pipped Micky Brache into third on countback.
