Vale Rec 2, North 1

JARED ALEXANDER struck a dramatic stoppage time winner to claim the Corbet Cup and send Vale Rec into raptures last evening.

In a cracking final at the Corbet Field, the home side had to come from behind against neighbours North in an end-to-end encounter which could easily have realised more goals had it not been for the excellence of both keepers, Barnaby Paul and Andrew Oxburgh.

But it was Vale No. 1 Paul who had the final say of the two as it was his long clearance, which was allowed to bounce, that Alexander latched onto.

The striker then nudged the ball past the onrushing Oxburgh and it seemed to take an age to roll through the penalty area before finally crossing the line.

The clock read 60min. 20sec. and less than a minute later James Lihou was blowing the final whistle.

It was hard on North, who had played their full part in the entertainment.
