FOR all the local disappointment suffered from the results in the Muratti and the Siam Cup, Guernsey had plenty to celebrate in the annual table tennis inter-insulars held at the Geoff Reed Centre at the FB Fields in Jersey at the weekend.

Guernsey controlled proceedings from the outset with the Sarnians winning 13 of the 19 individual Channel Island finals on Friday evening.

The team events held on Saturday proved just as fruitful with Guernsey retaining the aggregate trophy through an emphatic 63-47 victory culminating in an exhilarating 6-4 triumph in the much sought after Green Trophy.

Alice Loveridge enjoyed a successful Friday evening claiming four CI titles, which included a five-game win over wily Jersey veteran Kay Lefebvre to claim the women's singles crown.

She was unlucky not to have won five titles, as in the women's doubles along with Kate Stubbington, they were pipped to the title in seven tight games by Lefebvre and Nicola Duke in a match where the Sarnians held a 3-1 lead.

Liam Robilliard played some visually impressive table tennis to romp to a five-game victory over young Jersey star Max Tupper in the under-15 boys and Olly Langlois did likewise against Tupper in the under-18 boys' event after a slow start.
