GREY skies and a cold road were no serious drawbacks as a string of class records fell on the Bank Holiday hill climb.

Six marks fell at the GMC&CC organised meeting and there were some fairly drastic reductions in class bests.

Simon Ward's Peugeot 205 took 85 hundredths off the modified saloons 1,400 to 1,800 record, but the biggest cut came in the classic cars where Jim Langlois's Lotus Elan 1600 took more than a second off his own class best.

Mike Ozanne's Triumph TR3 equalled Langlois' best with his fourth and final timed run of the day, while bringing up the rear of this nostalgia laden class were the Kirkpatricks, Frederica and Simon.

They may have been slowest, but their car has seen a lot more life than its rival cars.

The shared Bugatti Type 13A was built in 1924 and is thought to be one of only seven left of the original 2,000 made.

On this occasion Frederica pipped her husband by a tenth of a second and was quick to tease him about it.

Not that Simon seemed to mind much. He's just glad to have joint use of a wonderful machine which has the accelerator pedal in the middle as opposed to the right.
