Nigeria sweat on visas

NIGERIA are a serious doubt for next week's Pepsi World Cricket League Division Seven.

The national team's 14 players and three officials are stuck at home waiting to be granted visas to be able to enter the British Isles.

They are due to feature alongside Guernsey, Suriname, Bahrain, Gibraltar and Japan in the week-long tournament, which begins on Sunday in the island.

However, their captain, Adewale Adeoye, confirmed yesterday that they are waiting on the British High Commission in Lagos to process their visas.

'We're still waiting - our officials are at the embassy,' he said. There has been some confusion as to what is actually happening.

The story has been splashed in the Nigerian national media and on the Reuters newsagency. Lagos-based newspaper the Daily Sun reported on Monday that the team were leaving the next day.

And the chief executive officer of the Guernsey Cricket Board, Mark Latter (pictured), who is the WCL Division Seven tournament organiser, believed yesterday morning that the Nigerians were already on their way.
