ST PETER Port yesterday sent home its final Year 11 group as the school prepares to close at the end of term.

The students are now on study leave before they sit their GCSEs.

Acting deputy head and head of Year 11 Emyr Davies had mixed feelings.

'It's quite a nostalgic moment. I've been here for 18 years now,' he said.

Mr Davies, who will move to La Mare de Carteret High, was pleased with the future prospects of his year group.

More than 90% were progressing to post-16 education, mainly at the College of Further Education and the Sixth Form Centre, and the remainder had found jobs or places on training schemes.

Richard Bourgaize, 15, and Ben Fitchet, 16, were among those about to start their GCSE exams.

Both are hoping to study sports at the CFE next year, but said they would miss their old school.

'I'm pretty confident about my exams. Our teachers have done really well,' said Richard.
