STEVE BUCKNOR (pictured) is finding it odd to be in Guernsey, but he is glad to be here.

The legendary umpire stood in 128 Tests before he retired from the top flight earlier this year.

He is now spending the week in the island umpiring in Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division Seven.

He was definitely the star attraction at the tournament's opening ceremony in the Hatton Gallery at Castle Cornet on Saturday evening.

Immediately distinguishable with his tall yet hunched figure, he was busy, happily posing for pictures with the Bahrain team who immediately swamped him as soon as they saw him.

'It's strange to have come here after so many years of Test cricket,' he said, when he got a chance to talk.

'I would never have thought of doing this tournament, but I'm happy to be here. If I'm asked, I'll do them.'
