GUERNSEY kick-started their Pepsi World Cricket League Division Seven campaign with a nervy four-wicket win over Gibraltar yesterday.

Chasing a tricky 227 to win on a flat Port Soif strip, the home side managed it with just three balls to spare.

With Sunday's match against Japan a wash-out, this was Guernsey's first chance to live up to their billing as 'tournament favourites'.

'I think we can play better than that,' said island manager Dave Hearse afterwards.

'We need to be more disciplined in the field and bowling but hopefully this was a platform for us to go on and do well the rest of the week.'

Gibraltar's total came on the back of an excellent 90 from their best player, Kieron Ferrary.

The innings earned the 20-year-old the man of the match award.
